Ordering Trees

Always call first to make sure your first choice is still available!

My Guarantee: If you don't like your tree, for any reason, you can return it within seven days for a full refund. You still have to pay the shipping.

Since I do not have control over the tree once it leaves here I make no further guarantee about it, other than that it was apparently healthy when I shipped it. I will never ship a tree I believe to be in poor health, but no one is infallible, and mistakes can be made.

In general the survival on collected trees is quite good (90%+) when they are collected with a good root system. Usually, after a tree has been in it's pot for a growing season (from spring to summer) it is strong enough that some styling work can begin. This is especially true with ponderosa pine. Look at the collecting date beside each photo to see when the plant was collected. If the tree has been very recently collected you can assume that it has an excellent root system, or I would not be offering it for sale. Shiping can be delayed on these trees to minimize stress.

The trees I offer are all one of a kind, usually with the potential to become masterpiece bonsai. My prices are well below the rest of the market, and you can often buy three or four trees from me for the price of a single specimen from somewhere else. If you have any questions, just call.

Shipping Charges: A shipping charge is provided next to each tree. Send this amount along with payment. This will cover the box and packing materials, time, insurance and delivery by UPS Ground or Fed Ex Ground. I can also ship a number of different ways if you desire.

UPS 3-Day Select is slightly faster, but about twice as expensive as UPS Ground. In most cases I don't recommend it. 2nd day air is very expensive. Air freight is cheaper and often just as fast, although it's not guaranteed.

Air Freight is the best way to ship large trees, or several trees at a time. I use Northwest Airlines, and ship to the airport nearest you. You pick up the tree and pay for the shipping at the airport when it arrives. Frequently the tree will arrive at its destination airport the same day I ship it, but this depends on traffic and is not guaranteed. Air Freight usually runs between $65 and $100 per box, but it can be more, depending on the dimensions. The only restriction is that the package must be less than 29 inches on one side.

For orders over $5000 I can often deliver the trees myself and the shipping charge will just be my gas and motel expenses.

In most cases your tree will be shipped on the Monday after I receive your check or money order. I ship trees year-round and they are packed very carefully to avoid damage. In general, conifers are hardy enough that they can take a week, or more, in a box without problems. However, you should arrange delivery so the box is not left unprotected in the scorching sun all day, if possible.

If I'm going to be attending a bonsai show near you, I can also bring your tree with me. A minimal shipping charge may apply, depending on how much trailer space I have available. For the year 2001 I am planning on attending the Mid-Atlantic Spring Festival April 20-22 in Millburn, NJ, Possibly The Potomac Bonsai Association show at the National Arboretum the weekend of April 27, The Columbus Bonsai Society show at the Franklin Conservatory over Father's Day weekend and the International Bonsai gathering in Rochester, NY, in Mid-September. If you know of a show you'd like to see me at, please feel free to contact me about arrangements.

And, of course, you're more than welcome to stop by next time you're in South Dakota, and pick out a tree to take with you.

Payment: make checks and money orders out to Golden Arrow Bonsai. I do not currently take credit cards, but I will probably start soon.
